Hearing loss caused by otosclerosis – a condition where the stirrup bone is fixed and unable to vibrate – can be treated by replacing a part of the bone with a small prosthesis. This allows sound to be transmitted more effectively to the inner ear.
This is a very delicate procedure, with a high success rate in carefully selected patients.
